Song of Solomon - Toni Morrison After liking Sula, Jazz and even Tar Baby very much, something came amiss here, almost a sort of authorial contempt seeping through the lines--beautifully written as always-- in particular toward the women in the story. I get that SoS is Milkman's story, his odyssey, but save for Lena's magnificent dressing down of him, the female principle, for want of a better term, was crushed to within an inch of its life.

I must be missing something....
