Cold Comfort Farm

Cold Comfort Farm - Stella Gibbons Flora Poste is young, bright and likes things to be tidy. Rather than get a job, she moves in with her hopelessly gloomy and Gothic cousins at Cold Comfort Farm, presided over by Aunt Ada Doom, who keeps to her room after having once seen something "nasty in the woodshed." Tidying up ensues. A funny funny book with Gibbons parodying everything from Wuthering Heights to Thomas Hardy's fatalism to D.H. Lawrence's more purple prose.
