I was a little reluctant to pick this up for fear Kipling would indulge too much in that "White Man's Burden" nonsense. It was a pleasant relief to find out his instincts as a writer largely won out. Kim's relationship and travels with a monk throughout an India that's described in loving detail are very reminiscent of Huck Finn.
